Our Philosophy

As a fiduciary, Grange Capital has an ethical and legal obligation to always put our clients first! As such, we work diligently to eliminate the typical conflicts of interest found in the financial industry. Grange is a fee-only advisor based exclusively on the assets we are managing. We receive no commissions, referral fees or compensation of any kind from third parties. This enables us to offer objective and unbiased investment advice.

Grange is structured so that our goals are directly aligned with our clients’ desire to grow their assets. We have complete confidence in our investment strategies. In fact, it should be comforting to know that, as your advisors, we personally own almost all of the investments that we recommend to clients.

We strive to minimize client costs wherever possible and believe that clients benefit from avoiding the unnecessary complexity often found in our industry. In the spirit of full transparency, Grange provides detailed performance reporting on a quarterly basis. This is not just a statement, but rather an easy to understand view of all of your investments along with your true performance after all fees have been deducted.

Who's looking out for your best interest?

The Grange Name

FriendsWithWine.jpg

The Grange Capital name grew from a love of wines and winemaking excellence.  We were inspired by the Penfolds winery in Australia which produces a boutique Shiraz called Grange. Due to its incredible craftsmanship, Penfolds Grange has been known as Australia’s finest wine since its introduction in the 1950’s.

Year after year, regardless of the temperature, irrigation patterns, blend of grapes from different locations or unforeseen variables that might cause many to proclaim it a poor wine year, Penfolds’ exceptional vineyard management and superior winemaking skills have enabled them to produce Penfolds Grange to outstanding critical acclaim. It’s the expertise of the winemaker that leads to the consistent and recognizable Penfold Grange style that wine collectors world wide appreciate and value.

Likewise, the goal at Grange Capital is to provide an exceptional investment experience for each of our clients regardless of what may be occurring in the economy, politics, and the financial markets or despite any unforeseen events that may arise.  By applying that same level of attention, having a sound strategy and constantly looking for opportunities, we believe that our clients will benefit significantly over time from Grange Capital’s diligent efforts.

Are you ready for an exceptional investment experience?

About Mitch

Personal: Mitch spent much of his childhood up through high school on the baseball mound as a left-handed pitcher. His hard work and dedication enabled him to continue his love of baseball at the collegiate level while attending Concordia University in Portland.  It was there he met his now wife, Mikal.

Mitch and Mikal were married on New Year’s Eve 2017.  They welcomed their daughter, Marley, in July of 2020. As a family they love to travel and spend time on their boat when the sun comes out for a few months each Summer. Outside of family time you will find Mitch on the golf course or on the mountain looking for fresh powder.

Professional: Mitch grew up within his family business in Bellingham, Washington – Ludtke Pacific Trucking. Established in 1946, multiple generations of Ludtke’s have overseen the growth from a single logging truck to the international carrier it is today. Much of his childhood and teen years were spent at the company. The lessons of hard work, integrity, and perseverance imparted upon him in those hallways are core in his values today.

After college, Mitch spent some time exploring his creative side as a film producer at a local advertising agency, where he quickly realized that his true passion was in the field of finance and helping others. Mitch then spent over 5 years working his way up the corporate ladder in various finance roles at Fidelity Investments, all the while honing his investing, planning, and consulting skills. He excels at building close relationships with the individuals and families he works with and derives great satisfaction in helping them to exceed their financial goals and dreams.

In Loving Memory of Philip Caughman

Sometimes life blindsides us with the unexpected - catching us off guard and leaving us reeling. So it is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected loss of our friend and colleague, Philip Caughman, the victim of a motorcycle accident, October 19, 2021 in Los Angeles where he had been living since 2018.

Phil joined Grange just over a year ago and, at the age of 25, was just starting to shine with his well-crafted presentations and easy connections with our next generation of investors.  Phil was bilingual and incredibly intelligent, thanks to his German mother, Annette, and Math Professor father, John, who live here in Portland.  Phil was the middle child of three boys; older brother John and younger brother Alexander – they are a close family.  He had a very competitive side and excelled at computer gaming and go carts.  In 2018 he graduated from the University of Oregon’s Lundquist School of Business with a degree in Finance, which brought him to our industry.

Music was always a passion for Phil, as well as his impressive sneaker collection. In his previous career, he designed set lighting for concert venues and made many contacts in the music and entertainment industry.   Philip touched many lives, forged many friendships, and the loss will be felt by everyone who knew him, no matter how briefly.

Phil’s Grange family will miss his “let’s go!” spirit and big smile, affinity for strong coffee, keen technical ability, sense of humor, insatiable appetite, and dedication to our team and clients.  Philip projected enthusiasm and confidence when speaking about his job and was proud to be part of the Grange Team, according to his grandfather, one of Phil’s first clients.  The future will be deprived of this truly special and talented individual.

If you have a Phil story, personal experience, or sentiment to share, please email Leann Robbins at lrobbins@grangecapital.com.  We would love to share them with his family.

“Life is made of ever so many partings welded together.”   Charles Dickens
